Iron Mountain:
Franziska M. Smith, age 80, of Iron Mountain, Michigan, died Sunday, August 22, 2004, at the Pinecrest Nursing Home in Powers, Michigan.
Franziska was born in Cologne, Germany, on March 8, 1924. She married John Smith on September 8, 1953 in Germany. John served in the U.S. Army during WWII. They lived in Germany for a few years before moving to Texas. They later traveled to many other places and lived within the United States during John's service time. They finally settled in Iron Mountain in 1983. Franziska was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford and the American Legion Uren-Cooper-Johnson post #50 Auxiliary.
She enjoyed sewing bingo and listening as well as watching big band music.
Franziska is survived by her loving husband of 49 years John. One son John D. (Sue) Smith Jr. of Bippus, Indiana. One brother John Mayer of Cologne, Germany. 7 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren.
She is preceded by, One son Charles Herbert Smith and three sisters.
Visitation will be Thursday August 26, 2004 from 9-10a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The American Legion post #50 Auxiliary will offer a memorial service Thursday 9:45a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday 10a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens in Breitung Township.
