Frank L. Tuchowski, 88, Crystal Falls, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2008, at his home.
He was born September 15, 1920, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Gregory and Mary (Mazurick) Tuchowski. On June 1, 1957, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls, he married the former Lorraine Groop.
Frank was a graduate of Crystal Falls High School class of 1939. He was a beef and dairy farmer most of his life and was known for his sweet corn, raspberries, and pumpkins. For twelve years he hosted the kindergarten class picnic with a farm and small animal tour and picnic in the hay mow. Frank was a rural mail carrier for the post office for 30 years. He loved to carve and work with wood. Many of his religious themed creations were donated to churches or other charitable organizations. He has been featured in National Wood Carvers magazine.
Frank was a charter member of the Iron Range Farm Bureau and served as president and on the board of directors. He was a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association and served on the advisory committee of the Upper Peninsula Artificial Breeder Association. He was also active as a leader in 4-H Clubs of America. Frank was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls where he served as an usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3082, Crystal Falls, and served as their financial secretary for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Tuchowski, Crystal Falls; four daughters, Merry Beth (Martin) Malloy, Melissa Carswell, Fern Tuchowski, Catherine (Patrick) Vassar; eight grandchildren, Ruben, Francis, Marti Lou, and Zane Malloy, Darren and Rebekah Mullen, Beth and Ian Vassar; two sisters, Lorraine Rojek, Irene Battye; and one brother, Walter Tuchowski. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, John, Chester, twins Ted and Ed, and two sisters, Angeline Shimalius and Rose.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2008, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Daniel Moll will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, in the spring of 2009.
