Obituary

Frank E. Lake, Sr., 83, of Niagara passed away Monday, July 29, 2013, surrounded by his family, at the Oscar G. Johnson Veteran's Administration Hospital, Iron Mountain. Frank was born June 14, 1930, in Niagara, Wis., son of the late Frank and Julia (Steiner) Lake. He grew up in Niagara and was a graduate of Niagara High School. Frank served in the U.S. Army from September 3, 1948 until being honorably discharged on December 2, 1957. While serving in the Army, Frank reached the rank of sergeant serving in Korea, Germany, Guam and Hawaii. Frank was severely injured in the service but continued to serve until being discharged. He married Beverly Arnold on April 22, 1961 at St. Barbara's Catholic Church, Vulcan. They resided in Niagara. Frank worked for the Kingsford Chemical Company before obtaining a position with the Niagara Paper Mill as Calendar Stack Operator. He retired from the mill in 1980 due to health problems. Frank was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara, Niagara Volunteer Fire Department and for 25 years, along with his wife Beverly, maintained the Niagara ice rink. He had many interests that included watching the Green Bay Packers, gardening, fishing, playing cards, and especially family gatherings. Frank enjoyed spending time with his wife, his children and babysitting his grandchildren. Frank liked getting out of the house, taking rides to enjoy the scenery, watching the planes come in as well as eating at his favorite place, Kentucky Fried Chicken. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Beverly; two sons, Frank (Lisa) Lake, Kingsford, Mich., Jerry (Gayle) Lake, Pewaukee, Wis.; four daughters, Lisa (Kerry) Berdinner, Vulcan, Mich., Linda (Richard) Robinson, Waucedah, Mich., Sandra (Don) Powalka, Niagara, Wis., and Rose Scott, Kingsford; two sisters, Kay Peterson, Norway, Mich., and Barbara Krenn, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren, Josh Smith, Jessica Smith, Samantha Berdinner, Nicole (Cory) Groeneveld, Traci (Bob Pasowicz) Robinson, Franky (Ashley Holcomb)Lake, Lorissa (Cody Klema) Lake, Jerod Lake, Nicholas (Courtney) Hagen, Emily Powalka and Jeff Scott Jr.; six great grandchildren, Jada, Kaden, Shane, Sage, McKenzie and Xander; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Catherine and Vertin LaCosse; two brothers Earl "Bill" Lake and Randy Lake, two sisters Joyce Hansen and Betty Hansen, one grandson Jason Scott and one son-in-law, Jeff Scott Sr.. Visitation will be Saturday, August 3, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday 11:00 a.m. at the church. The American Legion Cretton-Tutas Post No.136, Niagara will accord military honors at graveside. Rev. Fr. Matt Settle will officiate. Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery, Norway.
