Francis T. Meakim, 92, of Crystal Falls, formerly of Tinley Park, Ill., passed away Friday, October 11, 2013, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. Francis was born, January 1, 1921, in Florida, son of the late Thomas and Mary (Picorni) Meakim. He married Jane Bleskan, July 29, 1942. She preceded him in death. Francis served in the U.S. Marines from 1943, until his honorable discharge in 1946. He served as a Captain and flew B25 Bombers. He and his wife resided in Chicago for a few years and in the 1950s moved to Tinley Park. Francis worked as an electrician for Meany Electric Company until he retired. He was an active member of St. George Catholic Church in Tinley Park. In 2007, he moved to Crystal Falls. Francis enjoyed photography and playing tennis in his younger years. He is survived by two sons, Robert (Patricia) Meakim, Custer, S.D., and Michael (Almeda) Meakim, Chicago, Ill.; one daughter, Cynthia (Robert) Curtis, Crystal Falls; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Jane, Francis was preceded in death by one brother, Norman Meakim. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 16, 2013, 9:00 a.m.11:00 a.m. at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 17248 South Harlem Avenue, Tinley Park, Ill 60477. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th Street, Alsip, Ill., 60803.
