Crystal Falls: Frances M. Mellas, age 89, of Crystal Falls, died Sunday, February 16, 2003, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette, Michigan. Frances was born on January 16, 1914, in Crystal Falls, Michigan, daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (Lazzari) Dalpra. Frances graduated from Crystal Falls High School in 1932 and in 1934 she moved to Milwaukee. She was employed by Kolmar Laboratories in Milwaukee for 23 years. She married Bernard Mellas in Chicago in 1941. In 1970, after Bernard became ill, they moved back to their cottage on Lake Mary. Bernard died in 1980. Some years thereafter, Frances moved back to the Mellas family home in Crystal Falls. She was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, and the VFW and American Legion Women's Auxiliary. Frances who was dearly loved by family and friends, is survived by one sister Helen Hetrick of Milwaukee, and many nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by six brothers, Alexander, Victor, Alexander II, (Tuffy), Paul, Rudy, and Joseph and two sisters Anna Erspamer and Mary Barnett. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2003, at 11:00a.m. at the Guardian Angels Church in Crystal Falls, Michigan. Father Ray Zeugner will be officiating. Memorials can be made to the Guardian Angels Memorial Fund or the Crystal Falls Theater Organ Fund.
