Crystal Falls:
Florence Marie Slade, 75, of Crystal Falls, Michigan, died Thursday, January 29, 2004, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on December 15, 1928, in Saginaw, MI, the daughter of the late Hazel and John Slade.
She graduated from Saginaw High School in 1946. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Central Michigan University in 1950 and earned a Master of Science Degree from MacMurry College in 1955. Following teaching positions at Greenville High School and Beloit College, she was hired by Northern Michigan University in 1961. She taught in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation until she retired in 1986. After retiring from NMU, she chose to settle in Crystal Falls to be near her best friend Gloria Chervo and her extended family.
Ms. Slade loved God, Country, animals, fishing, outdoor adventures, and was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan. She was a proud member of Alpha Sigma Tau and lived by its creed. She enjoyed hearing from her many friends and former students that are scattered around the state and the nation.
Florence was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Jozwiak. She is survived by her sister Shirley Frawley and many nieces and nephews.
A grave side service will be held in May in Crystal Falls.
