Obituary

Crystal Falls: Fern L. Barthelt, age 85, died March 29, 2005 at home with her family. Fern was born August 14, 1919 in Tracy, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Henrietta and Clifford Sherman. She attended Tracy schools, graduating with the Class of 1937. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Chicago, Illinois to attend Mount Siani Nursing School where she became a Registered Nurse in 1944. On December 1, 1945 she married Henry Barthelt in Chicago, Illinois where they made their home for 29 years and raised five children. Upon retirement in July, 1974, they moved to the Crystal Falls area with their two young daughters to start a new home. She became one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1982 and enjoyed sharing her Bible hope with all who would listen. Her husband preceded her in death on March 3, 1981. She is survived by 3 sons. Earl (Eleanor Bauer) Barthelt, Richard (Donna) Barthelt, and Ronald (Mary Lane) Barthelt, all of Chicago, Illinois; 2 daughters. Donna Barthelt and Theresa (David) Kurtz, of Crystal Falls; 2 brothers, Clifford (Jeanette) Sherman, Robert (Virginia) Sherman, 2 sisters, Phyllis (LeRoy) Craft and Joanne Schambers, all of California; 5 grandsons. Mark, Brian, David, Joseph, and Ethan; 1 granddaughter, Maria Louise, and 4 great grandchildren, Christian, Madeline, Jessica, and Katrina; along with many nieces and nephews and good friends. Visitation will be held Friday, April 1st , from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Jacob's Plowe Funeral Home in Crystal Falls, Michigan. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 2nd at 10:30a.m. at the Iron River Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses on Bates-Amasa Road in Iron River, Michigan. Burial at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
