Evelyn "Mike" Anderson, 81, of Vero Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center. Mike was born on May 11, 1929, in Ann Arbor, Mich., daughter of the late Howard and Gertrude (Begole) Kern. There, she attended Perry Elementary School and Ann Arbor High School. Mike then went to Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich., graduating in 1954. She met her husband-to-be Clyde G. Anderson on campus and they were married in the campus chapel on May 1,1954. Mike and Clyde lived in Cincinnati, Ohio and Lake Leelanau, Mich., before moving to Vero Beach in 1978. They summered in Alpha, Mich., at the Anderson family farm. Clyde preceded her in death in 1996. Mike was devoted to her family and especially her grand-daughter Libby. She volunteered in her granddaughter's preschool and elementary school classes. Family and friends enjoyed her beautiful handiwork- crocheting, knitting, needlepointing, cross stitching, and quilting. Family sing-a–longs were also a frequent activity for Clyde and Mike. Clyde played the piano by ear and Mike sang along. Mike also volunteered at the Iron County Historical Museum in Caspian, Mich. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (John) Caulfield, Vero Beach; her son, Tom (Donna) Anderson, Vero Beach; her brother, Richard "Dick" (Pat) Kern, Green Valley, Ariz.; granddaughter, Sara "Libby" Anderson, Winter Park, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
