Obituary

Eva M. Smith, 89, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at ManorCare Health Services, Kingsford. She was born February 26, 1921, in Hibbing, Minn., daughter of the late Clifford and Mary (Passino) Nault. Eva married Harold Smith on November 27, 1943, in Camp Adair, Oregon; he preceded her in death on October 5, 2008. After being married, Eva and Harold lived for a short period of time in Missouri before Harold was transferred overseas. In 1946, they moved back to Iron Mountain, at which time, they owned and operated Smitty's Bar in downtown Iron Mountain until 1966. In 1967, they started Smitty's Sport Shop, which they operated for 15 years. Eva was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. She is survived by two sons, Allen J. (Jeanette) Smith, Chicago, Ill., Gary R. (Joan) Smith, Milwaukee, Wis.; one daughter, Maribeth (Robert) Klopke, Gresham, Wis.; one brother, Edward (Edith) Nault, Norway, Mich.; one sister, Genevieve Newton, Shawano, Wis.; five grandchildren, Joel, Kevin, Robin, Brooke, Elizabeth; and five great-grandchildren, Paighten, Brandon, Hailey, Calvin, and Charles. In addition to her parents and husband, Eva was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Clarence Newton. Visitation will be Thursday, September 23, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2010, at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Rev. Dan Zaloga will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
