Eva Hautala, 95, of Amasa, Mich., passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
She was born July 16, 1915, in Stambaugh, Mich., daughter of the late George and Hedvig (Rajamaki) Saarinen. Part of her early childhood was spent in Waukegan, Illinois, where her father was a carpenter and built homes. The family eventually settled in the Amasa area, where the family farmed. Eva graduated from Amasa High School.
In November 1936, Eva married Carl Hautala; he preceded her in death in 1990. Eva and Carl were married for 54 years. She enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, and was a good cook. Eva worked briefly at the Amasa Mill. At the age of 85, she made a trip to Finland to visit cousins and was proud of her Finnish heritage. Eva was a long time member of Sion Lutheran Church, Amasa, Michigan.
Eva is survived by her daughter, Audrey (David) Harrison, Waukegan, Ill.; granddaughter, Sarah Harrison, Round Lake Beach, Ill.; grandson, Michael (Leah) Harrison, Peoria, Ill.; and great-grandson, Alexander Harrison.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Toine Stefanowski in 1997.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 31, 2010, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Sion Lutheran Church, Amasa. The funeral service will be Saturday 2:00 p.m. at the church. Rev. Mark Reinsch will officiate. Burial will be in Hematite Township Cemetery, Amasa.
