Jane (Eugenia) Raether, 97, of Foster City, Mich., passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Freeman Nursing Home, Kingsford. She was born August 26, 1912, in Foster City, daughter of the late Peter and Amanda (Stenback) Carlson. Jane married Walter Raether on May 27, 1939, in Escanaba, Mich. He preceded her in death in February 1998. Jane enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking. She was a homemaker and had been an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Foster City. She is survived by her children Gary (Lorraine) Raether, Iron Mountain, Lois (Gary) Sturm, Kingsford, Linda Raether, Felch, Guy (Kathy) Raether, Foster City, Lola (Darwin) Dixon, Felch; eleven grandchildren, Gary Raether, Jr., Marquette, Terry (Yvonne) Raether, Minnesota, Lori (Scott) Misage, New Hampshire, Jerry (Laila) Raether, Arizona, Larry (Dawn) Raether, Wisconsin, Chris (Susan) Sturm, Kingsford, Gary Sturm, Jr., Menominee, Guy Raether, Jr., Foster City, Scott (Erin) Raether, Foster City, Trevor (Katie Kostanski) Dixon, Hardwood, Dustin (Nai Teasley) Dixon, Iron Mountain; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Deloris Carlson, Helen Wagner; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Walther Raether, Jane was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Kling; two brothers, Einar Carlson and Wallace Carlson. Jane's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mark McQuesten will officiate. Burial will be in Foster City Cemetery.
