Crystal Falls- Eugene G. Maki, age 85, of Mastodon Township, Mich., passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019, at his home. He was born May 13, 1934 in Iron River, Mich., son of the late Lauri and Helia (Isaacson) Maki. Gene grew up in Alpha and graduated from Alpha Porter High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy and then worked as a maintenance foreman for Michigan Bell. Gene married Gwendlyn Holmes on April 26, 1958, in Alpha, Mich. He served as Alpha president, board member of Crystal Falls Hospital and also on the Alpha Volunteer Fire Department. Gene enjoyed hunting and 4 wheeling with his children. His true joy was spending time with his children. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Gwen; one son, Chris (Diane Thomas) Maki, Crystal Falls, Mich.; two daughters, Sharon (Steve Mahan) Maki, Gwinn, Mich. and Diana (Daniel) Fischer, Mishicot, Wis.; four grandchildren, Amanda Fiedler, Heather Scott, Samantha Maki and Christopher Maki; four great-grandchildren, Savannah, Jakob, Ashton and Jaden; and very special friend, Matt Kivikko.
