Obituary

Eugene King Black, age 67, of Sagola, died Friday, October 21, 2005 at home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 4, 1938 son of the late King and Amelia (Carlotto) Black. On June 27, 1959 he married Rae Burns at the Presbyterian Church in Sagola. She survives. Eugene graduated from Crystal Falls High School, class of 1957. Throughout his life he worked for Republic Steel Corporation at the Tobin Mine, and the North Range Mine Corporation at their Book and Warner Mines. He had worked for the Y Lumber and Logging Company in New Hampton, Missouri. After moving back to the area he was employed at Elmer Johnson's potato farm and Janzen's Quarry. He retired from the M.A. Hanna Mining Company (Groveland Mine) where he worked for 19 years. He loved deer hunting with family and friends, listening to country and western music, enjoying the out-of-doors and the many things he could do outdoors on his property. Eugene and Rae enjoyed many winters together in Florida. He leaves his beloved wife Rae Black, Sagola; three sons, Gene Black, Sagola, Mark (Sherri) Black, Iron Mountain, Douglas (Liz) Black, Kingsford; two grandchildren, Nicholas Pocock, Zackery Black; and one sister, Lois (John) Wagner, Piqua, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ralph Black and a granddaughter, LeAnn Black. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at Grace Presbyterian Church, Sagola. The Rev. David M. Anderson will officiate.
