Eugene Beckman, 76, of Crystal Falls, Mich., formerly of Clintonville, Wis., passed away on September 10, 2009, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain, Mich.
Gene was born on May 10, 1933, in Clintonville, to the late Fred and Edna (Weller) Beckman. On October 9, 1954, he married the former Marlene Handschke in Clintonville.
The couple spent the first year of their marriage in Missouri, while Gene completed his service in the Army at Fort Leonard Wood. In 1955, they moved back to Clintonville, where they lived until 2008, when they moved to Crystal Falls. Gene was employed at FWD Corp., then at Utility Tool & Body Co. until he retired. He also ran his own machine shop. In the 1950s, Gene pitched for the Clintonville Athletics baseball team. He loved sports, hunting, and fishing.
Gene is survived by his wife, Marlene; two daughters: Theresa Seefeldt, Clintonville; Debra (Del) Zillisch, Crystal Falls; and a grandson, Marshal (Kristin) Shields; also nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, LaVerne Miller; and a son-in-law, Dan Seefeldt.

A memorial gathering to celebrate his life will be held at the Veterans Memorial American Legion building across from Olen Park in Clintonville on October 10th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to come for lunch and to share memories.
