Obituary

Crystal Falls: Estella Kinnunen, age 87, of Amasa, Michigan, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Iron County General Hospital in Iron River, Michigan. She was born November 15, 1916, in Lessor Township, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Jewett and Laura (Thompson) Johnson. Estella married Carl Kinnunen on May 16, 1941. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1982. Estella worked as a cook in area logging camps, at Amasa Coffee Shop, and the Amasa Senior Center. She was well known for her pasties. She had been a member of the Amasa Fireflies Fire Department Auxiliary and the Bethany Lutheran Church. She also had a sharp wit and a keen sense of humor. Survivors include three daughters Vicky Odlund, Erma (Dennis) Lepisto, and Susan (Peter) Casagranda all of Amasa, a sister Sarah Messer of Antigo, Wisconsin , eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Carl, she was preceded in death by a twin sister Edna Johnson, a sister Lillian Johnson, and two brothers Edwin and Ivan Johnson. Visitation will be Monday, March 29, from 9:00 to 11:00a.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Amasa. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Fred Kinsey and Rev. Dr. Kim Beckman will officiate. Burial will be in Hematite Cemetery in the Spring. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
