Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Maurer, 59, of Spread Eagle, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at her home with her husband at her side. She was born December 29, 1953, in Bad Axe, Mich., daughter of the late Stanley and Rita (Kubacki) Helewski. Betty graduated from Ubly High School, Ubly, Mich., Class of 1972. She received her LPN degree from St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron in 1973. Betty married Brian Maurer on May 12, 1984, in Florida. They resided in Florida for 17 ½ years, later residing in Seattle, Wash., New York State, and in 2003, moved to Crystal Falls where they resided until 2009, at which time they moved to Spread Eagle. Betty worked as an LPN while living in Florida and while living in Crystal Falls, she took care of many of the elderly in their homes as a home care worker. She enjoyed many hobbies including bird watching, feeding the birds and her chickens, walking, being outdoors, sewing, cooking, making quilts for her family whom she loved very much, and always could be found helping her husband with many of his chores. She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Brian; two brothers, Dave (Jean) Helewski, Bad Axe, Rick (Julie) Helewski, Ubly; eight sisters, Pat (Ken) Majeski, Kinde, Mich., Marge (Dick) Frantz, Kinde; Sue (Carl) Weber, Ubly; Barb (Don) Kolar, Minden City, Mich., Marilyn (Rob) Grocholski, Bay City, Mich., Carlin (Steve) Maurer, Bad Axe, Mary Jo Cleary, Ubly, Lorie (Rich) Block, Ruth, Mich.; sister-in-law, Paula (Ross) Westbrook, Williamston, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Doug (Jan) Maurer, Terry (Sheryl) Maurer; and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Dickinson Home Health Iron Mountain Mich. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
