Obituary

Elaine A. Neargarth, age 84, of Iron Mountain, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at her home with her family at her side. She was born September 8, 1921, in Grand Rapids, Mich., daughter of the late Leslie and Leona (Morrison) Hobbs. On October 26, 1941, she married Reuben Neargarth in Alto, Mich. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1995. Elaine and Reuben lived in Sault Ste Marie, Mich., and in 1945 moved to Kingsford. She was employed at Lee's Beauty Shop in Kingsford for a year and a half, before establishing her own shop "Elaine's Beauty Shop". She operated her shop for 15 years. She then went to work for Kingsford Drugs, Snyder Drugs and Chicks Health Mart, retiring after eight years. Elaine was a member of the Covenant Women's Group and Tuesday Morning Prayer Group. She taught Sunday school for many years, was an assistant Girl Scout Leader, taught and loved cake decorating, and was known for her beautiful flower gardens. Survivors include one son, Larry (Pat) Neargarth, Florence, Wis., one daughter Linda (Peter) Cayanus, Kingsford, two brothers Charles (Helen) Hobbs, Harrison, Mich., Howard (Helen) Hobbs, Alto, Mich., four sisters Eleanor (Paul) Dintaman, Alto, Mich., Eloise Courter, Clarksville, Mich., Evelyn (William) Courter, Texas., Estelle (Harvey) Stark, Alto, Mich., six grandchildren Julie Koller, Lisa Miilu, Timothy (Darla) Neargarth, Phillip (Lori) Crary, Tamitha Neargarth, Colleen Balquiz, three great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, September 2, 2006, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral Services will be at noon at the church. Pastor Peter Erickson and Larry Neargarth will concelebrate. Burial will be in Breitung Township Cemetery in Quinnesec, Mich.
