Obituary

Elaine K. Huffman, 93, of Niagara, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 19, 2011, at Maryhill Manor, Niagara, after a courageous five year battle with cancer. She was born August 9, 1918, in Niagara, the youngest of ten children to Joseph and Mary (Tisdelle) LaLiberte. Elaine was a lifelong resident of Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School, Class of 1936. She married William Huffman on August 9, 1938, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. He preceded her in death in 1986, after almost 48 years of marriage. Elaine was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women, Royal Neighbors of America, where she held many offices, Tuesday Evening Homemakers Club, Sewing Circle, Northwoods Senior Café and Center, Bowling League, and Dartball League. Elaine was also a troop leader for her son and daughter's scout troops. She was an inspiration to be around and always had a kind word for everyone she met. Elaine enjoyed her weekly visits with her friends at the Senior Center, and the many, many family gatherings held in her honor. She had many hobbies, which included couponing, reading, Bingo, Casino bus trips, knitting, crocheting, sewing, fancy work, and travel, flying at the age of 91 to a family wedding in Georgia. Elaine is survived by her children, Katherine (Rodney) Wendt, Appleton, Tom (Judy) Huffman, Florence, Pam Huffman, Niagara; seven grandchildren, Terry (Ann) Wendt, Augusta, Ga., Becky (Patrick) Goheen, Bend, Ore., Melissa (Dave Fieck) Cherry, Green Bay, Shevonne (Paul) Andersen, Elm Grove, Wis., Michelle (Dan) Dorn, Abrams, Wis., Bud Weier, Florence, and Sandy Weier, Florence; ten great-grandchildren, Terrence Wendt, Jr., Rodney Wendt, II., both of Augusta, Tracy (Trever) Mashak, Kimberly, Wis., Sammy (Ryan Vassar) Weier, Florence, Andy Cherry, Matt Cherry, both of Green Bay, Rachel Andersen, Charlie Andersen, both of Elm Grove, Sam Dorn, Madeline Dorn, both of Abrams; sisters-in-law, Eleanor LaLiberte, Doris LaLiberte, Avis Huffman; many nieces, nephews, and her beloved grand and great-grand pets. She was preceded in death by one son, James Huffman in 1988, and his wife Virginia in 2007; three sisters, Hazel, Blanche Grandow, Mildred Smith; six brothers, Rueben, Lester, Clayton, Verton, Roland, and Floyd; seven brothers-in-law, Jack Grandow, Joe Herman, Charles Smith, Dave Bent, Dale Gash, Sam Huffman, Floyd Huffman; ten sisters-in-law, Luella, Dorothy, Roma, Ann, and Mary LaLiberte, Emma Bent, Gladys Gash, Ruth Stepek, Ann Herman, Kathryn Huffman; numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Elaine's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Maryhill Manor for all the loving care of their mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The staff's kindness and understanding will always be appreciated and remembered. It made a difficult time much easier to bear. Visitation will be Saturday, November 26, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the church. Rev. Fr. Matt Settle will officiate. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery, Niagara.
