Elaine E. Gustafson, 84, Crystal Falls, died, Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at the Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River. She was born September 14, 1923, in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late John and Mary (Groop-Jarp) Ronholm. On November 12, 1949, she married Carrington Gustafson in Crystal Falls. He preceded her in death on January 11, 1991. Elaine graduated from Crystal Falls High School, class of 1941. She attended secretarial school after graduation and was employed as a legal secretary for the Iron County Probate Court. Carrington's career with the State of Michigan took them to Pontiac, Alpena, Port Huron and Lansing. She was devoted to her family and was most honored when selected by her grandson, Brian, as his mentor at the Forest Park Honors banquet in 2006. Elaine was a member of United Lutheran Church, active in the choir and Women's Circle. Survivors include, one son, Cary (Donna) Gustafson, one daughter, Wendy (Gregg) Schiavo, all of Crystal Falls; four grandchildren, John Gustafson, Marquette, Adrian (Lee) Francisco, Marquette, Brian Schiavo, MTU student, Brett Schiavo, Crystal Falls; one great-grandchild, Bryce Francisco; and one sister-in-law, Eleanor Holm, Portland, Ore. She is further survivred by many nieces and nephews including: special nephews, Tom (Colleen) Carlson, Norway, Jim (Monica) Carlson, Essexville, John A. (Diane) Jarp, Florida; one special niece, Carroll (Tim) Ashlock, California; one cousin, Lorraine (Frank) Tuchowski and her close friend, Joyce Salmi, Crystal Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carrington Gustafson, one infant daughter Cheryl Gustafson and one brother, John W. Jarp. Visitation will be Monday, September 24, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church, Crystal Falls. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
