Obituary

Edward C. Provencher, 88, of Niagara, Wis., passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Maryhill Manor, Niagara. He was born September 25, 1919, in Niagara, son of Joseph and Leona (Perigny) Provencher. Edward married Norma VanPembrook on June 2, 1945, at Sacred Heart Church in Aurora, Wis. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2006. After graduating from High School, Ed served in the US Army during World War II, from 1942 until 1944. Upon returning home from the service, Ed took over the family farm, following the death of his father. Farming provided a good life for Ed, as he married and raised a family, residing in the huge farm house built by his father in the early 1900's, where his son, Joe and his wife Lorraine, now reside. Gardening became a hobby that grew into an abundance that was shared with the community. Provencher's sweet corn was well known in the area. He is survived by one son, Joseph (Lorraine) Provencher, Niagara; three daughters, Betty (Jim) Morin, Niagara, Mary (Dick) VanLangendon, Green Bay, Patricia (Larry) Cowling, L'Anse, Mich.; a sister, Delia Brown, Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; 15 grandchildren, Douglas (Laurie) Morin, Scott Morin, Steve (Tori) Morin, Dan Morin, Jeff (Nicole) VanLangendon, Greg (Ashley) VanLangendon, Robert Cowling, Matthew Cowling, Jane Freeman, Charlie Freeman, Darlene Schuh, Edward (Kari) Provencher, Diane (Erik) Blosser, JoAnn (Seth) Thompson, Joseph Provencher; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, Edward was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosanne Freeman; seven brothers, William, Philip, Fred, Rocke, Louis, Arthur, George; three sisters, Eva Melin, Alice Lindstrom, Anna Luke ; three grandchildren, Dennis Morin, Wendy Provencher, and Kevin Provencher. Edward's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be Thursday, June 5, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. Father Michael Betley will officiate. American Legion Cretton-Tutas Post 136 of Niagara will accord military honors at the cemetery. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
