Edward "Eddie" C. Olson, 86, of Quinnesec, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Monday, February 3, 2014, peacefully at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born January 28, 1928, in Norway, Mich., son of the late Albert and Gerda (Carlson) Olson. Ed grew up in Norway and graduated from Norway High School, Class of 1946. He served in the US Army Air Corp from 1946 until he was honorably discharged in 1949. Ed married Marjorie Bjorkman on October 14, 1950, at Mission Chapel, Niagara Township. They resided in Norway for a few years until moving to Quinnesec in 1956. He worked construction for Labor Union Local 1329, serving as president for many years. Ed was a member of First Baptist Church, Iron Mountain. He was also a founding member of Community Bible Chapel, Norway, where he served as a leader for the Christian Service Brigade. In his younger years, Ed coached Little League. He truly loved his family and especially the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marjorie; three sons, Tom (Virginia) Olson, Hudsonville, Mich., Rick (Debbie) Olson, Norway and John (Julie) Olson, Green Bay, Wis.; one daughter, Ruth (Richard) Williams, Woodbridge, Va; ten grandchildren, Joel (Alyssa), Katie (Matthew), James (Tricia), Matthew, Christie, Zachary, Elizabeth, Michael, Kristen and Benjamin; six great-grandchildren, twins, Grace and Alexander, Alaina, twins, Addison and Grant and Kylee and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, James-1974; four brothers, Bersell, Gilbert, Oliver and Rudy Olson; two sisters, Edna Laws and Florence Gawelko; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Friday, February 7, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Community Bible Chapel, Norway. Visitation will also be held Saturday, February 8, 2014, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m. at Community Bible Chapel, Norway. Pastor Aaron Miller of First Baptist Church, Iron Mountain will officiate. Burial will be in Breitung Township Cemetery, Quinnesec. The American Legion Uren Cooper-Johnson Post No. 50 will accord Military Honors at graveside.
