Florence- Edward E. LeFleur Jr., 98, of Florence, Wis., passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Mich.
He was born September 9, 1923, in Crystal Falls, Mich., son of the late Edward E. and Judith (Anderson) LeFleur. Edward grew up in Florence, Wis., and was a graduate of Florence High School, class of 1943. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy on January 27, 1943, and served until his honorable discharge on January 29, 1946. Edward sailed on the USS LST 49 and, in his later years, enjoyed attending Navy reunions with his wife and was able to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington DC.
He married Betty Vassar on August 1, 1947, in Florence, Wis. They shared 72 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on May 27, 2020.
Edward was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Florence and worked as a butcher for the Florence grocery store. He was a self-employed logger for many years and also ran a beef farm.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Deb) LeFleur, and Michael (Cathy) Vassar-LeFleur, both of Florence, Wis.; three daughters, Maryann (Chris) Voelker, Iron Mountain, Mich., Joey (Chris) Butzen, Milwaukee, Wis., and Mechelle LeFleur, Canton, Mich.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Betty, Edward was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Wytinski.
