Edward W. Dennis, 78, of Kingsford, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at his home.
He was born on April 16, 1936, in Kingsford, son of the late Alfred and Mildred (Richards) Dennis. Edward grew up in Kingsford and graduated from Kingsford High School where he held multiple athletic records. He went on to attend Northern Michigan University where he played tight end on the 1956 undefeated football team. Edward married Connie Phillips in Niagara and they resided in Kingsford. He worked for Hanna Mining Company as a welder for many years retiring in 1981. Edward then married Joanne Van Oss on April 8, 2006, in Sagola. They resided in Kingsford.
Edward enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, going to camp, golfing, playing cards, helping others and especially spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne; three sons, Keith (Karen) Dennis, Florence, Wisc., Kevin (Jenny) Dennis, Mukwonago, Wisc. and Kurt Dennis, Bad Axe, Mich.; one daughter, Brenda (Charles) Seremjian, Brighton, Mich.; two step-sons, Larry (Judy) Process and David (Pat) Process; one step-daughter, Michelle (Chris) Tremel; father-in-law, Floyd Van Oss, Channing , Mich.; one brother, Herb (Helen) Dennis, Fairfax, VA; one sister, Jeanette (Bill) Baril, Iron Mountain, Mich.; twelve grandchildren, Nichole (Kenneth), Michelle (Recce), Ryan, Mark, Jason, Kristen, Angela (Bob), Allison, Michael, Hanna, Ashley, Emily and six step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Orville Dennis, Henry Dennis and an infant sister.
Visitation will be Friday, May 2, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
