Iron Mountain: Edna K. Berklund, age 100, formerly of Fence, Wisconsin, died Friday, October 17, 2003, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Kingsford. Edna was born March 9, 1903, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, to the late Edward and Katherine (Larsen) Olsen. When Edna was five years old, the family moved to Iron Mountain and a year later to Homestead, WI. She attended and graduated from Florence High School and completed training courses to become a teacher. She taught at Nichols School in Fence and Brown School in Homestead. Edna kept busy with farming, playing piano, teaching Sunday school, acting as Fence's Town Clerk, knitting, crocheting, and tatting. Edna was a member of Fence Union Church. Edna married Mike Berklund in 1924 and moved to Fence, Wisconsin, where she resided for most of her life. He preceded her in death in 1957. She is survived by one son Ted (Betty) Berklund of Kingsford, one daughter Lorraine (Charles) Sternhagen of Fence, five grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Mike, Edna was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters. Visitation will be Sunday, October 19, 2003, from 2- 3 at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain, and Monday, October 20, 2003, at the Fence Union Church from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be Monday, October 20, 2003, 11:00 a.m. at the Fence Union Church. Pastor Tim Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Fence Cemetery, in Fence, Wisconsin. The Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is serving the family.
