Edith Hefner, at the age of 80, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain, Mich. Edith formerly of Plainwell, Mich., has resided with her daughter in Niagara, Wis. the last 3 years, while she fought a brave and difficult battle with cancer.
Edith was born August 25, 1929, in Germany. She married Glen R Hefner, July 6, 1952. Glen preceded her in death on January 19, 1992, as did her son Ron R. Hefner, on September 11, 1984.
She did factory work off and on throughout her life at Kal-Equip, Parker-Hanifin, both in Otsego, Mich., and Allen Electric in Kalamazoo, Mich. When the body was willing…or it was possible to "will" the body Edith was active. She loved to be busy, enjoyed working outdoors and was meticulous about taking care of her things. Never idle for long she swam, golfed, bowled, skied, skated, played volleyball and quite often made sure she could still do a cartwheel in the yard.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen (John) Nandory; two grandchildren, John T. and Kinsey Nandory, of Niagara; three sisters, Ursula (Rolf) Klager, Helga (Kurt) Kistner, and Angalica Ringelspacher, all of Germany; three sisters-in-law, Barbara (Roscoe) Hefner-Parks, of Mich., Carol Wirick, of Colo., and Ruth Earl, of Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and burial will be held in Plainwell, in May. The date and time will be announced at a later date.
