Florence: Edith L. Gammey age 84 of 701 Spring Street Florence, Wisconsin died Sunday September 8, 2002 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Edith was born on August 18, 1918 in Fence, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Albert and Ada (Anunson) Soderberg.
Edith was a life long resident of Florence and a 1936 graduate of Florence High School. She married Joseph Gammey in October of 1936 in Florence. During the war they resided in Iron Mountain for a few years before they moved to Chicago in 1962. While in Chicago, Edith worked for General Controls and Automatic Electric. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 1968. Edith moved back to Florence in 1968 and purchased Lloyd's Motel. Edith along with her daughter Kitty operated the motel until 1974.
Edith was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Florence and the VFW Auxiliary of Amberg.
Edith enjoyed many hobbies including, crocheting, picking berries, baking cookies, sewing and cooking for her family. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Edith is survived by one son Bill (Barbara) Gammey of Iron Mountain. One daughter Marian "Kitty" Gammey of Florence, WI. One brother Ernest (Joyce) Soderberg of Redford, MI. Two sisters Mabel Panek and Viola Merhalski both of Florence. Two grandchildren Jeannie Gammey of Green Bay, WI and Susan (Dave) Rice of Aurora, WI. Three step-grandchildren Robin, Mark and Lisa. Five great grandchildren, 11 step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is being served by the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home of Florence.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home in Florence. Funeral Services will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Florence. Pastor Doug Johnson will officiate.
