Iron Mountain-Eddie V. Hayes, 87, of Niagara, Wisc., passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at Manorcare Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Kingsford, Mich. He was born May 27, 1929 in Iron Mountain, Mich., son of the late Edward and Lola (Vansickle) Hayes. Eddie had been a lifelong resident of the area and attended Kingsford High School. He married Irene Freeman in 1954 in Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death in 2001. Eddie worked for Lodal Incorporated as a painter for 25 years before retiring in 1990. He was an avid woodsman and enjoyed cutting firewood. Eddie is survived by one son, Patrick Hayes of Kingsford; one daughter, Shelley Liljequist of Kingsford; two brothers, Pat (Bonnie Zerbst) Hayes of Kingsford and Mike (Darleen) Hayes of Peavy Falls, Mich.; five sisters, Lola Zawada of Niagara, Dina Hayes of Iron Mountain, Joan (George) Tinti of Norway, Mich., Colleen Lessor of Kingsford and Ginger Remiker of Niagara; two grandchildren, Kyle Liljequist and Lola (Matt) McKindles, and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Irene, he was preceded in death by one brother, George Hayes. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Rev. Fr. Matt Settle will officiate. Burial will be in Breitung Twp. Cemetery, Quinnesec, Mich.
