Obituary

D. Ray Moore, 82, of Waucedah Township, passed away Monday, July 16, 2012, at his home. He was born February 6, 1930, in Ingham County, Mich., son of the late James Robert and Jessie (Conyers) Moore. Ray grew up in Ingham County and graduated from Everette High School. He served in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged, he married Berneice Richter in Lower Michigan where they resided. Ray worked as an Engineer and Superintendent for General Motors in Linden, N.J. He retired after 30 years at General Motors. Ray was Meridan Township Deputy Sherriff. Ray enjoyed deer hunting in Waucedah Township for over 50 years loving it so much that he and Berniece made Waucedah their home in 2002. He also enjoyed playing pool and loved bowling. Ray was proud to be an American and his favorite song was "God Bless America". He was a member of the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post No. 50, Iron Mountain, life-member of the NRA, and past member of the AAUW. Ray was also Commodore of the Yacht Club in Florida for many years, and was sports fisherman captain for twenty-three years in Florida. Ray is survived by his loving wife of over 62 years, Berneice; one son, James Ray (Merly) Moore, Florida; two daughters, Pamela Sue Moore, North Carolina, Martha Ann "Marty" Moore, Holland, Mich.; one brother, Jack (Jeanne) Moore, Lake, Mich.; one sister, Jessie "Robetta" Appleton, Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by one brother, Bill Moore; and his grandson, Kevin. Visitation will be Saturday, July 21, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. The American Legion Post No. 50 will accord Military Honors 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home. A memorial service will follow.
