Obituary

Dorothy (Bouffiou) Calo, 84, of Iron Mountain, passed away, Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at ManorCare Health Services, Kingsford, Mich. She was born on April 27, 1928, in Kingsford, daughter of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Boncher) Bouffiou. Dorothy, and her sister Shirley, were the first set of twins born in Kingsford. She grew up in Kingsford and graduated from Kingsford High School. Dorothy married Henry Calo on November 28, 1953. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1993. Dorothy moved to Oshkosh, Wis., in 1954. She worked for the Oshkosh Public School system as an assistant cook for many years before she and Henry moved back to Iron Mountain in 1991. Dorothy was a member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford. In the 1940s, Dorothy and her sisters, Elaine, Shirley and Kath, played softball on the women's softball league. She was an active league bowler, bowling in both singles and doubles, with her husband. Dorothy's high scores netted her a regular mention in the sports page. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers, playing cards, going to the casino and doing crafts. She is survived by two sons, Daniel (Marilyn) Anderson, Oshkosh, Wis., Mike (Cheryl) Calo, Oshkosh, Wis,; one daughter, Elizabeth (Richard) Voelzke, Menasha, Wis.; four sisters, Elaine Beyer, Kingsford, Shirley Pancheri, Kingsford, Donna Olson, Tacoma, Wash. and Kathleen (Henry) Opolka, Norway, Mich.; five grandchildren, Richard, Brian, Nicole, Mindy and Lindsay; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters-in-law, LaVilla Amet, Tacoma, Lillian Bouffiou, Iron Mountain and Molly Altobelli, Iron Mountain; one brother-in-law, John (Mary) Calo, Kingsford; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by, one daughter, Monica Calo; one granddaughter, Paula; four brothers, Elwood "Buff", Joseph (Lillian), Eugene and Donald Bouffiou; two sisters, Evelyn Hosking and Beverly (Bob) Hosking; in-laws, Tom Beyer, John Pancheri, Bert Olson, Carlo and Kathleen Calo, Mike and Marion Calo and Dan Altobelli. Visitation will be Sunday, November 4, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited, Monday, 10:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Monday, 11:00 a.m., at American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford. Rev. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
