Obituary

Dorothy Marie Black, 84, of Crystal Falls, Michigan, passed away Friday, May 23, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Florence Wisconsin. She was born February 29, 1924, in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois, daughter of the late Henry and Etta (Tadlock) Littrell. In 1941 Dorothy married Everett Black in Elizabethtown Ill. He preceded her in death. They resided in Junction Ill. until 1962, farming. From there they moved to Dixon Ill. and Dorothy worked at the state mental hospital in laundry until her retirement in 1984. At that time she moved back to Rosiclare, Ill. She was a loving caregiver in her own home to her husband and sister Anna Mae until their deaths. Due to failing health, in 2003, Dorothy came to live in Crystal Falls with her grandson Bob and wife Tina. In 2006 she moved to the Golden Living Center in Florence. Dorothy enjoyed quilt making, gardening and her cats. She received 1st and 2nd place ribbons for her quilts in the Iron County Fair in 2004. She leaves an empty space in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She was fondly called "Grama" by staff and residents at the Golden Living Center, who became her extended family. She is survived by her grandson, Bob (Tina) Black, Crystal Falls; grandson, Mark Black, Machesney Park Ill; grandaughter, Debby Black, Rockford Ill.; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; dear friend Christa James, Crystal Falls, and dear friend and neighbor, Corina Culson, Rosiclare Ill. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, son Harley, sister Elsie Palmer, brother Silas Littrell, brother Emmett Littrell, brother Clinton Littrell, brother Winfred Littrell, brother Virgil Littrell, brother Richard Littrell, and sister Anna Mae Tanner. Dorothy's wish was to return home to Rosiclare and to be laid to rest at the McPherson-Love Cemetery next to her husband and son. Graveside service to be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at the cemetery.
