Obituary

Doris L. Peryam, 88, of Crystal Falls, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. She was born December 1, 1919, in Lake Mine, Michigan, daughter of the late Norman and Sadie (Goard) Peryam. Her family moved to Amasa, Mich. when Doris was an infant. Doris grew up in Amasa and graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1937. Doris worked in the office of Cloverland Supply in Crystal Falls for several years and then for American Can and its predecessor companies; Patten Timber, Patten Logging, Marathon Paper, and Northern Paper in the Amasa office for 42 years until her retirement. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Amasa Library Board for many years, was on the Jubilee committee and wrote the book "Amasa, Michigan – A History 1891-1966" which is in its 3rd printing. Doris was active at Grace United Methodist Church, Amasa as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent. She also served on the church board as chairperson and treasurer at various times and was active in the Ladies Aide. She is survived by two sisters, Shirley Dahl, Leah (Gene) Casagranda; one nephew, Clifford (Carole) Dahl; four nieces, Susan (William) Broad, Gail (Joseph) Heidkamp, Lori (Steve) Brown, Lee Ann (Charlie) Davis; four grandnieces; four grandnephews; two great-grandnieces; two great-grandnephews; and a good friend and neighbor, Lucille Peterson. Doris was preceded in death by a brother, Norman "Jim" Peryam.
