Obituary

Doris L. Maraccini, 84, of Iron Mountain, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014, at Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Kingsford, Mich., surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 6, 1929, in Merriman, Mich., daughter of the late Alfred and Linnea (Wickman) Williamson. Doris grew up in Merriman and graduated from Kingsford High School. She married Geno Maraccini, of Iron Mountain on June 27, 1953, in Riverside, Calif. where they resided for one year. They returned to Iron Mountain and built the Lake Antoine Motel which they owned and operated together for 25 years. Doris was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She wintered in Florida for 23 years where she taught Art Classes for 10 of those years. Doris enjoyed the outdoors, hunting in Michigan and Montana, camping and her three trips to Alaska where she enjoyed fishing. She was an artist who enjoyed oil painting, riding their 3-wheel motorcycle and spent many summers playing Bocci Ball. Doris is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Geno; one son, David (Paula), Breitung Township; one daughter, Debra (Jon) LaCourt, Kingsford, Mich.; one brother, Donald (Kay) Williamson, Merriman; one sister, Elva Williamson, Denver, Colo.; one brother-in-law, Ken Krueger, Iron Mountain; four grandsons, Kris Saxon and Cole, Craig and Elliot Maraccini; three great-granddaughters, Nina, Kara and Morgan Saxon and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Giachino. In accordance with the family's wishes private visitation and services were held. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain. The family would like to thank Dr. Funtanilla and the staff at Freeman's Convalescent Home for the excellent care given to Doris while she was there.
