Obituary

Donald Anton Pietsch, 77, of Peshtigo, Wis., passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center, Iron Mountain. He was born January 4, 1932, in Menominee, Mich., son of the late Anton and Luella (Bero) Pietsch. Donald grew up in Menominee and graduated from Menominee High School, Class of 1950. He served in the United States Army in the Military Police Corp., Poisson, Korea, during the Korean Conflict. Donald and his father operated Pietsch's Market on 13th Street in Menominee for many years. Later, Don became a partner in the K & W Grocery/Hardware store on 10th Street in Menominee. He relocated to Iron Mountain in 1967, where he owned and operated Don Pietsch Realty C-21, until 1984. Don then moved to Green Bay where he worked part-time for four years in real estate. He returned to his hometown of Menominee in 1987, to be near his family and friends. He was a VFW life member, a 45 year member of the American Legion, and a former member of the Moose Lodge of Green Bay. Don enjoyed spending time with friends, playing cards, drinking beer, and especially his wife's cooking. Don is survived by his wife, Joan; five children, Cheri Pietsch, Tucson, Ariz., Cindy (Roy) King, Bonduel, Wis., Tim (Carol) Pietsch, Iron Mountain, Todd Pietsch, Green Bay, Tracy Pietsch, Peshtigo; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles, and many dear friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you the staff at the hospital (especially the CLC Unit) for their many hours of care, concern, and thoughtful attention to Don's needs. They would also like to thank his many friends for their thoughts, prayers, and for taking the time out of their schedules to go visit him in the hospital.
