Donald L. "Frog" Hanttula, 59 of Amasa, Mich. passed away Friday, May 20, 2011 at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, Michigan.
Donald was born on September 30, 1951 in Amasa, son of Victor and Gladys (Jacobson) Hanttula.
Donald was a lifelong resident of Amasa and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He worked for Champion International Paper Mill as a wood yard operator for 17 years, retiring in 2001. Donald served our country in the U.S. Army.
Donald "Frog" at a very young age learned to hunt and fish from his uncles. His love to carry on the tradition was in his blood. He was a very successful hunter and loved when others could try and compete with him, especially his nieces and nephews. He was proud of his trophies and dared you to get a better one. He will be missed by all who knew him, even nature.
Donald is survived by his mother Gladys, Amasa; two brothers, Gary (Dawn) Hanttula, Crystal Falls, Kevin (Mary) Hanttula, Crystal Falls; two sisters, Denise (Fred) Hiltonen, Amasa, Coleen (Phillip) Blough, Amasa; three nephews, Jerry (Danette) Hanttula, Rick (Tanya) Hiltonen, Logan Blough; four nieces, Kimberly Hanttula, Lindsey Hiltonen, Ashley (Jess) Bortolini, Jenna (Nick Simbob) Hanttula; three great nephews, Indio, Marshall, Lincoln; six great nieces, Aishwarya, Claire, Syriana,Lily, Kaarina, and Ava. Many special friends including, Sally Casiano, Amasa, Bucko Thoreson, Amasa, Rosalie Taucher, Crystal Falls, Steve Aho, Crystal Falls, Greg LaVacque, Amasa.
He was preceded by, his infant son, Triston Michael, father Victor Hanttula, and one brother Byron Hanttula.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 29, 2011, 1pm at Hematite Township Cemetery, Amasa The Eastside Veterans Council will accord military honors at the cemetery. Immediately following the graveside services everyone is invited to the Hiltonen camp on the Net River for a Celebration of Life
