Donald E. Grober, 80, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Iron Mountain, with his family by his side. He was born September 5, 1927, in Milwaukee, Wis. son of the late Edwin and Norma (Rosenau) Grober. He married Dorothy C. Chandler on March 26, 1949, his loving wife of 44 years, who preceded him in death on March 2, 1994. Donald served in the US Marine Corps during WWII in the pacific theater. He was honorably discharged in 1949. He was an avid Packer fan and loved the outdoors, but his favorite pastime in the later years was going to the casino. Donald moved to Florence in 1969. Prior to moving to Florence, Don worked as a Sergeant for the City of Glendale Police Department. Before retiring, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Florence County Highway Department. He will be dearly missed and is survived by his three loving daughters, Debra L. Shivy (fiancé, David F. Durocher) Marquette, Mich., Diane K. (Doug) Hansen, Aurora, Wis., Doreen J. Grober, Florence; his best buddy, Remington, his yellow lab; two brothers, Dale (Kay) Grober, Lac du Flambeau, Wis., Daryl (Nancy) Grober, Milwaukee, Wis.; one sister, Carol (Robert) Nadeau, Milwaukee; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Dorothy, Don was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna L. Warrick; a son-in-law, Dale E. Shivy; and his only grandchild, Ryan D. Warrick. Visitation will be Saturday, February 9, 2008, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Florence, in the spring.
