Kingsford:
Donald Julius Bouffiou Sr. age 84, of Kingsford, MI, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 17, 2004. Donald was a resident at Manor Care Health Services in Kingsford.
He was born in Rhinelander, WI on August 15, 1919, son of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Boncher) Bouffiou. He graduated in 1939, from Kingsford High School. He enlisted in the US Army in July of 1941, and was stationed at Fort Snelling, MN and Fort Custer, serving as a Military Police until his discharge in November 1945. Donald worked for 33 years for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Hermansville, Niagara, and Iron Mountain.
He married Lillian Skoog on December 19, 1942, and they celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary in 1992, with a large reception with over 250 guests. Donald was a quiet man, who enjoyed bowling, golfing, and he loved his large family. Donald was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Transcontinental Communications Union and the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 of Iron Mountain.
Donald is survived by his wife, the former Lillian Skoog, 2 sons; Donald (Judy) Bouffiou, Jr. of Franksville, WI and Todd (Carmen) Bouffiou of Iron Mountain, four daughters; Lynn (Ken) Stohl of Tampa, FL, Tina (Bruce) Erickson, Shelley (Dave) Byrne, and Wendy Kletschka all of Kingsford, one son-in-law, Jeffrey Ellis of Kingsford.
He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; Cynthia (Robert) Bruinsma, Michelle (James) Baumann, James (Dana) Bouffiou, Angela (Gerald) Emond, Kristopher(Amanda)Lund, Anthony (Bee) Erickson, Edward Erickson, Amy (James) Stanchina, Ricky Vandenhouten, Stacy Vandenhouten, Stephanie (Craig) Tomczak, Heather (Christopher) Strong, John Kletschka, and Nicole (Shaun) Christmas, and fifteen great-grandchildren; Robert, Marc and Heather Bruinsma, Josh, Justin and Amanda Baumann, Jesse & Jenna Bouffiou, Nathan Lund, Zackery Duby, Kristopher Lund Jr., Katherine Erickson, Preston and Cory Strong, Sidney Tomczak, and Brynn Lund, five sisters; Elaine (Thomas) Beyers of Kingsford, Dorothy (Henry) Calo of Breitung Twp., Shirley (John) Pancheri of Iron Mountain, Donna (Bert) Olson of Tacoma, WA, Kathleen (Henry) Opolka of Norway and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a daughter Karla (Jeff) Ellis in 1999, two sisters; Evelyn Hosking and Beverly (Robert) Hosking and three brothers; Elwood Bouffiou, Joseph Bouffiou and Eugene Bouffiou.
Visitation will be Monday, March 22, from 4 – 6:30P.M. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The American Legion Post 50 of Iron Mountain will conduct a Veterans Memorial Service at 6:00P.M. Monday, at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday at 7:00 P.M. at the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Pastor Peter Jonas will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. Pallbearers will be Anthony Erickson, Edward Erickson, John Kletschka, James Bouffiou, Robert Bruinsma and James Baumann.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Lutheran Church, 1210 S. Stephenson Avenue, Iron Mountain, MI 49801
