Dolores "Dee" Cowell, passed away peacefully at Evergreen Assisted Living Memory Care Unit on Friday, June 1, 2018. Dee was born on October 7, 1922, in Iron Mountain, Mich. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Perina Verrette. Dee graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1941 and went on to attend Penglaze Business School. During high school, Dee worked at Kresge's Five and Dime Store. She later worked as a secretary for Champion Gravel, Bacco Construction and Security Sportswear. Dolores married William Cowell in 1950, and they were happily married for fifty-six years.

Dee was a stay-at-home mother, raising three children. She loved reading books, listening to music, playing the piano, and taking walks. She enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge club for over sixty years. Dee and Bill spent many happy years traveling, skiing, and golfing together. They were able to enjoy these hobbies throughout North America and Europe. Their cottage located on Long Lake at the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes gave them and their family forty-three years of fun summer activities together. When Bill retired they became snowbirds, spending their winters in Venice, Florida.

Dee was a very loving wife and mother. She had a good spirit and a positive outlook on life. Dee was always a lady, honest, generous, kind and loyal. She had a wonderful sense of humor and made the best raspberry pie on the east side of Iron Mountain. Spending time with her family and sharing a delicious homemade ravioli meal was a special gathering she looked forward to.

Dolores is survived by her children; Jeffrey (Joanne) Cowell, Iron Mountain, MI, and Joseph (Brenda) Cowell, Woodland Park, Colorado, Laurie Furlow, Omaha, Nebraska, her five grandchildren: Ryan(Shannon) Cowell, Centennial, Colorado, Danielle ( Jerad) Bischoff, Woodland Park Colorado, Tony Cowell, Woodland Park, Colorado, Dr. Paul (Jennifer) Furlow, Boston, Massachusetts and Stephanie (Jon) Scholz, Omaha, Nebraska; six great grandchildren: Anna and Bryce Bischoff, Ellen and Alex Cowell, William Furlow and Scotland Scholz. She is also survived by a brother, James (Barbara) Verrette, and a sister-in-law, Riva Cowell; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her Mother, Perina (Bacco) Verrette, her father, Edward Verrette, four brothers: Louis (Ruth), Edward (Mary), John (Jane), Joseph (Eleanor) Verrette, and her son-in-law, Scott Furlow.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 22, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. A Memorial Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. Rev. Fr. Janusz Romanek will officiate. Burial will take place at Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
