Dennis J. McAuliffe, Sr., 75, of Iron Mountain, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014, at his home.
He was born March 11, 1939, in Chicago, Ill. son of the late John and Margaret (Costello) McAuliffe.
Dennis grew up in Chicago and graduated from Manley High School, Chicago. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956, until he was honorably discharged in 1965. Dennis served in the Vietnam War on the U.S.S. Abbott. He served as an engineer and CB operator on the destroyer. During his tours he traveled to many countries and was part of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Apollo Rescue Mission and a member of the Mercury Recovery Force. Dennis married Rita Mon in 1975; she preceded him in death on March 5, 2012. While living in Chicago, Dennis was a proud member of the Local 714/727 Teamsters Union until the age of 72. He worked for the Chicago Trade Show at McCormick Place for 37 years, retiring in 2010. He moved to Iron Mountain in 2012, to be closer to his son.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain and the American Legion, Chicago.
Dennis is survived by two sons, Dennis (Laura) McAuliffe, Jr., Iron Mountain, and Mark (Becky) McAuliffe, Lake Geneva, Wis.; two daughters, Amy (Jen) McAuliffe, McHenry, Ill. and Laura Wagner, Kingsford; two brothers, John (Gayle) McAuliffe and Terry (Ann) McAuliffe, Fort Pierce, Fla.; four sisters, Gayle (Bob) Wilson, Country Side, Ill., Sheila Madair, Shamburg, Ill., Karen (John) Flannigan, Fla., Moreen (Jack) Edmond, Fort Pierce; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife Rita he was preceded in death by one sister, Maryann Montabano and one son-in-law, Bruce Madair
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2014, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Iron Mountain American Legion Post No. 50 will accord military honors at graveside. Rev. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
