Dean Melin, 85, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson Veteran's Hospital.
Dean was born January 15, 1928, in Aurora son of the late Ragnar and Eva (Provencher) Melin. He graduated from Kingsford High School, Class of 1946, and later went on to serve in the U.S. Army. Dean married Vivian Anderson on August 19, 1950, in Iron Mountain.
He worked various jobs during his lifetime, including the Niagara Mill, Wisconsin Highway Patrol and was a truck driver and dispatcher for Clairmont Transfer in Iron Mountain. Dean served on the Florence County Board for 6 years and was a Past Master of the Hiram D. Fisher Masonic Lodge No. 222, Florence, Wis. He loved playing his guitar, singing country music and had his own country band. Dean enjoyed socializing with family and friends at his West Bass Lake cabin. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making maple syrup, working with his tractors and was an avid college football fan.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years, Vivian; two sons, Rodger (Marcia)Melin, Burnsville, Minn. and David (Else) Melin, Iron Mountain, Mich.; one daughter, Debbie (Mark)Albright, Green Bay, Wis.; four grandchildren, Collette(Richard) Bassi, Elko New Market, Minn., Caleb (Bobbie)Melin, Elko New Market, Stacy (Bryan) Mielke, Elysian, Minn., Lindsay Albright, Green Bay; nine great-grandchildren, Eva, Georgia and Cooper Bassi, Jack and Jaira Gardner, Jacelyn Melin and David, Rachel and Riley Mielke.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon and Ragnar Melin and one granddaughter, Erin Melin.
In accordance with Dean's wishes, the Hiram D. Fisher Masonic Lodge 222 will conduct a Graveside Memorial Service, 12:00 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014, at the Aurora Cemetery. A celebration of Dean's life will be held, at the C&R Bar in Aurora at approximately 1:00 p.m. following the memorial service.
