Dave Vary, 68, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, after a courageous battle with pneumonia complicated by various industrial lung diseases and emphysema.
He was a loving husband, proud father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. Dave was a Crystal Falls area resident for the past forty years. He was proud to be a retired member of the Construction and General Laborers Union of the AFL-CIO, Local 1329. Dave was highly respected on the job, whether he was working as a laborer, a foreman, or a superintendent. He did whatever the job required on many Upper Peninsula commercial construction projects through the years.
Before moving to the Upper Peninsula with his children and ex-wife, Barbara, Dave was employed as an arborist by the Chicago Parks District. Prior to that, he started and operated a towing company in the Chicago Loop, which he subsequently sold to Phillips Towing, owned by Barbara's Family.
Dave is survived by his wife and best friend, Sharon Eaton Vary, presently of Alpha; his two sons, John (Sandy) and James (Amy) Vary; four grandchildren, Autumn, Amber, Jake, and Abby, all of the Chicago area.
