Obituary

Darwin "Bill" Maycroft, 79, formerly of Spread Eagle, Wis., passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 24, 1933, in Muskegon, Mich., son of Juanita Maycroft and the former Milford Maycroft. Bill attended school in Ravenna, Mich. Bill served his country as a Marine from 1950 to 1953, serving time in the Korean War. He studied history as a young boy, continually broadening his knowledge throughout his life. Bill had great respect for the fundamental principles of our Founding Fathers found in the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and Constitution of the United States. He continued to serve with the Marine Corp. League of Iron Mountain. He married Darlene Harris on July 2, 1954, in Ravenna. They traveled extensively throughout the country wherever electrical work took them. Bill earned his degree as a master electrician, founding his own business in 1968. Bill was an avid outdoorsman who lived fishing, hunting, and camping at home and in Canada, also traveling to Alaska. He also bred, raised, and showed quarter horses and was involved in the Water Wonderland Quarter Horse Shows in Norway, Mich. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife, Darlene; mother, Juanita (Howard) Woolf, Muskegon, Mich.; three daughters, Kathaleen (Dale) Nissen, Florence, Kaye (Floren) Mileksi, Iron Mountain, Teresa Maycroft, Appleton; three grandchildren, Floren (Liz) Mileksi, Appleton, Travis Mileksi, Iron Mountain, Jessica Nissen, Florence; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and McKenna Mileski, Appleton. In addition to his father, Bill was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, Vernon and Karen Maycroft and Leonard and Diane Maycroft. Visitation will be Friday, October 12, 2012, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Maranatha Assembly of God in Kingsford. The Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m. at the church. Rev. David Wilton will officiate. The Marine League Corp. will accord military honors following the service at the church.
