Aurora – Daniel E. Wiegel, 77, of Aurora, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Oscar G Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, MI.
He was born on September 9, 1948, in Milwaukee, WI, to the late Fred and Pearl (Schultz) Wiegel.
He served in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1968.
Daniel enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son, watching the Detroit Lions, looking for morel mushrooms, playing cribbage, darts, and Yahtzee, his morning coffee, and baking chocolate chip cookies.
He loved spending time with his family, being outdoors, feeding and watching the wildlife, especially deer. He loved the sunshine and hated the cold. He was known to be a jokester especially when he would hold an electric fence and then touch someone near him just so they could feel the shock. His sarcastic humor was enjoyed by all.
Daniel is survived by his son, Doug (Pam) Wiegel; daughters, Tami (Bill) Martinucci, and Tania (Mario) Zanoni; mother of his children, Jenell Wiegel; sister, Nancy (Bob) Lang; grandchildren, Berkley Wiegel, Boone Wiegel, Amelia Zanoni, Joseph Zanoni, Dan Martinucci, and Josh Martinucci; great-grandchild, Declan Martinucci; and significant other, Georgetta Marquardt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Wiegel; and sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Lee Fenhouse.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, MI. Military Honors will be awarded at 2:00 p.m., followed by A Celebration of Daniel’s Life at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Danielson officiating.
