Obituary

Daniel Skovera CRYSTAL FALLS — Daniel Paul Skovera, 86, of Crystal Falls died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls. Dan was born July 27, 1916, in Crystal Falls, son of the late George and Helen Skovera. He was a lifelong resident of the Buck Lake District. He attended Crystal Falls schools and went off to fight in World War II in the U.S. Army, where he served his country in the European Theater. Dan received one Silver Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Arrowhead, six overseas bars and one service stripe. He was honorably discharged as a corporal. Dan came home and married Sophie Suheski on June 22, 1946. Together they worked their farm and he worked in the Bristol Mine. Everyone was welcome to their home. They were both very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion. Daniel's wife Sophie died this past June. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Andrew, Joe, Sam and George, and a sister, Helen. He is survived by a brother, Mathew (Myrtle) Skovera of Gaylord, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Saturday until time of service at 11:30 a.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home of Crystal Falls. The East Side Veterans Council will have Pass and Review at 11:15 a.m. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Fr. Marion Talaga of the Polish National Church of Mosinee, Wis., will officiate. Graveside veterans service will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls. Pallbearers will be John Skovera, Matt Suheski, Patrick Karle, Rory Karle, Brad Suheski and Frank Raye. The family is being served by the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home of Crystal Falls.
