Cletus Bastian, 94, of Kingsford, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, Powers, Mich.
He was born March 26, 1918, in Gladstone, son of the late Adolph and Adeline (DeGroux) Bastian. He served in the United States Army during WWII, from 1942 until being honorably discharged in 1945. Cletus married Margaret Johnson on May 27, 1950, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iron Mountain.
They lived in Iron Mountain for a short time before moving to Marquette, Mich., where they owned and operated Rest A While Cabins. Cletus also worked during this time for Cliff Dow Chemical Plant in Marquette. After retirement, he went to work for KI Sawyer Air Force Base in the Water Treatment Plant until retiring a second time in 1980, at which time Cletus and Margaret moved back to Kingsford. Margaret preceded Cletus in death on February 15, 2010.
Cletus was a member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford. He was a very skilled woodworker and enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Tigers.
He is survived by one son, Thomas (Dorothy) Bastian, Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Harley Bastian and John Sharrock, both of Columbus.
The Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2012, at American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford. Rev. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
