Florence:
Clement J. Solgat, age 74, of Florence, Wisconsin, passed away January 19, 2005,
at the Florence Villa Nursing Home in Florence, Wisconsin.
He was born March 31, 1930, in Reese, Michigan, the son of Clement and Clara (Fandrei) Solgat. He grew up in Reese, Michigan, attended school there and graduated from Reese High School in 1948. He served in the US Army as a medic during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, he went to Alma College for two years. On August 10, 1957, he married Rosalie Story in St. Louis, Michigan. They lived in Elwell, lower Michigan until 1960, when they moved to Florence. While in Florence he worked as a pipe fitter and welder until retiring. He and his wife ran The Town Tap for sixteen years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He also was active in the Florence Chamber of Commerce, a life member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus of Florence, Elks 1400 of Alma, Local 506 Union, and past president of the Florence Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his family.
Survivors include his wife Rosalie, a son David Solgat of Spread Eagle, a daughter Cathrine (Peter) Tomassoni of Iron Mountain, and four grandchildren Joseph and Albert Tomassoni, and Linlee and Mitchell Solgat.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father Walter Marsh.
Visitation will be Friday, January 21, 2005, from 12-2p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Florence. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00p.m. at the Church. Fr. Ray Valerio will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
