Clarence E. Johnson, age 86, of Florence, Wisc., passed away Sunday, December 31, 2006, at Manor Care Nursing Home, Kinsgford, Mich.
He was born July 29, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., son of the late Clarence and Angeline (Bianco) Johnson. He moved to Quinnesec, Mich., as a little child and remained there until 1967.
Clarence worked for Breitung Township School until the time of his retirement in 1982. He married Lois Peterson in 1967. After retiring in 1982, they made their home in Commonwealth, Wisc. Clarence served in the US Army from October 8, 1942 until 1945. One year and four months were spent in Europe, Battery A of the 348th Field Artillery Battalian of the 91st infantry division, also known as the "Powder River Division." He qualified as Gun Crewman Medium Artillery Number 864. He was a member of the American Legion Post Number 211, Florence, Wisc. Clarence loved to spend time with family and friends and also loved fishing, golfing, reading, and country music.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; one son, Jim (Carolyn) Johnson, Green Bay; three daughters, Peggy Olsen, Green Bay, Karen (Kim) Anderson, Green Bay, Janet (Allen) Kleiman, Bark River, Mich.; three sisters, Tess Castalaz, Norway, Mich., Joyce Jeneshek, Kingsford, Thelma Rodman, Quinnesec; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by one brother, David; a daughter-in-law, Karen; one granddaughter, Brenda; and one son, Jack Nau.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 6, 2007, from 10:30 am – 11:00 am, at the First Presbyterian Church in Florence. A memorial service will be Saturday, 11:00 am at the church, Pastor Doug Johnson will officiate. Burial will in the Commonwealth Cemetery in the spring.
