Clare Staley, 100, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Monday, June 7, 2010, at Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
She was born May 26, 1910, in Milwaukee, Wis., daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Kedzierski) Switalski. She was the youngest of five children – brothers Henry and Edward Switalski, stepbrother Eugene Bartels and sister Gertrude Fredricks.
Clare was a teacher for 30 years with the Milwaukee School System in elementary education. She earned her Bachelor Degree in elementary education and her Master Degree in education at Marquette University.
Her husband, Jack, who died in 1983, was a graduate of Marquette University with a degree in engineering. He was owner of John A. Staley Co., a manufacturing firm in machine tools. Clare and Jack came to live in Crystal Falls in 2006, from Prescott, Ariz., where she moved to following her retirement in 1970.
An active life may be the answer to her longevity, as she has been an avid reader, bridge player and has enjoyed swimming and walking. Travel has been another favorite pastime for her and she once traveled around the world on a 90-day tour.
Clare is survived by two children, Thomas J. Staley (retired) of Crystal Falls and Mary Swing (retired) of Prescott, Ariz.
