Clare LaFreniere, age 102, died Sunday, November 6, 2005 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. She was born December 25, 1902 in Albert Lea, Minn., daughter of the late Ludwig and Amelia (Jenson) Goethe. On December 7, 1921 she married George LaFreniere. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1960. Clare moved to Hibbing, Minnesota as a young girl and spent her early years there. She moved to Crystal Falls in 1947 with her husband, George and daughter Virginia. George worked at the Tobin Mine as chief electrician. After George's death in 1960 Clare chose to stay in Crystal Falls because she loved the city and people so much. Clare was active in the United Methodist Church, the Extension Club, Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Crystal Manor. She enjoyed reading and sharing her library with others and playing cards. Clare lived at Pleasant Valley for 20 years prior to entering the Iron County Medical Care Facility. Survivors include three daughters, DeEtte (Dot) Prideaux, Battle Creek, Audrey Nelson, San Luis Obispo, Calif., Virginia Moyle, Milwaukee, Wis.; 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George LaFreniere, and nine siblings. Visitation will be at the church Friday, November 11, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Christ United Methodist Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Stephen Rhoades will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
