Claire Ellen Landry, 82, of Florence, Wis. entered into eternal life on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain surrounded by family.
She was born June 13, 1926, in Florence, Wis., daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Kenney) Witynski. Claire graduated from Florence High School, Class of 1944. She then graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing, Green Bay, Wis. in 1947. Claire married the true love of her life, Robert "Bob" Francis Landry on May 7, 1949. They lived together in Green Bay before moving to Florence in 1957. Bob preceded her in death in 1978.
Claire was employed at St. Mary's until later moving back to Florence. While living in Florence, Claire worked at the Florence Lakeview Convalescent Home, the Florence Medical Center, and the Florence Villa in Florence serving as the Director of Nurses and a Registeres Nurse until the age of 76.
She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Belles of St. Mary's, St. Mary's Nursing Alumni, and Cursillo. Claire cherished and was devoted to her family, her faith, and her work. She will be forever remembered as the unsung hero working behind the scenes, inspiring many with her kind, caring and unselfish actions.
She is survived by one son, Bill (Jill) Landry, Grand Forks, N.D.; three daughters, Mary Kay (Al) Williams, Meg (Rick) Dallapiazza, Monica (Michael) Gatzow, all of Florence; one brother, Thomas (Sandy) Witynski, Florence; three sisters, Rita Pontbriand, Mary Jo (Paul) Bomberg, Nora (Dick) Meyers, all of Florence; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Witynski, Florence, Marie Landry O'Hirn, Green Bay; two brothers-in-law, Pat (Mary) Landry, Brookfield, Wis., Donald Fuller, Aurora, Ill.; ten grandchildren, Kary (Jeff) Nicholas, Thomas (Kristina) Williams, Nick, Tony, and Jake Landry, Robert, Mariana, and Meggie Dallapiazza, Michaela and Mariah Claire Gatzow, three great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Collin, and Marin Nicholas; many nieces and nephews.
Claire was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Witynski; three brother-in-laws, Tom Landry, Don Landry, Paul Pontbriand; and one sister-in-law, Kay Fuller.
Claire's grandchildren will serve as pall bearers, readers, and gift bearers.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 14, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. Prayers will be recited Sunday, 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, June 15, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. Fr. Matt Settle and Fr. Michael Betley will concelebrate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wis.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship for students who have demonstrated a commitment to service and who are pursuing a career in the healthcare profession will be established in Claire's name.
