Crystal Falls:
Charles J. Leonard, age 81, of Crystal Falls, Michigan, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at the Iron County General Hospital in Iron River.
He was born October 4, 1922, in Crystal Falls, Michigan, the son of the late Frank and Mae (Borns) Leonard. He attended and graduated from Crystal Falls High School in 1942. In 1943 he joined the US Army and was in the 382nd Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. In 1948, he met Leona Martwick while working for the Bell and Howell Company in Chicago, and they were married in 1949 in her home town of Tomahawk, Wisconsin. In 1954, they returned to Crystal Falls. From 1967 to 1985, he owned and operated the Crystal Auto Supply. He was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church. He was also a former member of the Lions Club, Crystal Falls Golf Club, and the Crystal Falls Bowling League.
Survivors include his wife Leona (Lee), one daughter Susan (Randy) Watts of Green Bay, WI, two sons; Tim Leonard of Crystal Falls, MI, and Mick (Debi) Leonard of Norman OK, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Robert F. Leonard and Rollin Leonard and three sisters Jane Tirapelli, Vernice Adzima, and Lorraine Anderson.
Visitation will be Friday, April 23, 2004, from 9:30-11:00a.m. at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church. There will be Veterans service at 10:45 by the East Side Veterans. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Father Ray Zeugner will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with the East Side Veterans conducting Military Honors.
